Go by bike alongside one of the most beautiful and – in terms of culture – most interesting river countrysides in Germany.
Starting at the two springs near the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Woods your way – mainly with eye-contact to the river – takes you through the Vorderröhn full of hilltops, and the “Land of the White Mountains”, crowned by the Monte Kali (rock salt slagheap), which can already be seen from far.
And it goes on in narrow resurgence valleys with many limestone reefs, through unspoilt river meadows, passing castles, across wonderful half-timbering towns up to the destination, the junction of the rivers Werra and Fulda creating the Weser; you have reached Hann. Münden.
During the breathers, you should in any case take some time for the towns and little villages along the wayside with their particularly charming half-timbered houses, historical town centres in good condition, and the cultural highlights.
